Outdoor Art

I've been trying to spiff up my back patio a bit this week and decided I needed a little piece of art to hang by the back door. Using ONLY supplies I had on hand, this is what I did.

First, I used my table saw to cut a scrap piece of wainscoting, and spray painted it white.
I taped off every other section and painted gray stripes with leftover bathroom paint.

After it dried, I removed the tape and sanded the edges and corners.

Instant character!

I wanted the piece to stand out from the wall a bit, so I glued on some scrap wood to the backside.

I used my Silhouette to cut out the shape of Arizona in navy blue vinyl, and attached it over the stripes.
I drilled a couple of holes and ran some twine through it for hanging.

I love how it looks and I LOVE that it cost me nothing to make!
