Beefing Up the Mantle

If you follow me on Instagram (@smbaker8), you'll know that two weeks ago we gave our fireplace a bit of a makeover.

 

 

Here's the 'before". The mantle and the surround were already done, but the area above the mantle was just drywall, and very boring.

 

 

 

We built the wood boxes, added faux ship lap, and crown molding to finish it all the way up to the ceiling.

Here it is now!!!

 

Here's an "in progress" pic.

Lee and I decided that crown molding is of the devil. It looks beautiful, but it's a pain to cut.

 

I'm so happy with how it turned out.
